Residents of Karambi cell, Nyarutuntu Sub-county in Ntungamo District have continued to raise concerns over the persistent lack of clean and safe water in their area.

This has reportedly been a long-standing challenge, and despite repeated appeals to their leaders, the situation remains unchanged.

According to John Nkunda, a resident of Karambi, they depend on water from wells, streams, and open dams, which poses a serious health risk. He noted that many families are now spending heavily on medical treatment due to waterborne diseases such as typhoid and others.

Another resident, Mujurizi, said that they are forced to buy a jerrycan of water at 3,000 shillings, yet it is still not clean and is fetched from distant sources. He appealed to the relevant authorities to urgently address the water crisis, emphasizing that water is a basic necessity for human life.

In response, John Wilton Katooma, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyarutuntu Sub-county, acknowledged the challenge. He explained that although water had previously been supplied to the area, the source was not sufficient, leading to a suspension of the distribution.

He, however, assured residents that plans are underway to expand the water source and restore the supply soon.
