Residents of Kakinga Cell, Rwakirungura Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District, are calling on the government to address a deep pothole at the junction of Kiborogota tarmac road and Omukagaana Trading Center feeder road, which is managed by the Sub County.

The residents raised their concerns on Saturday, 29th March 2025, during a communal work exercise along Kiborogota tarmac road and Omukagaana Trading Center feeder road. They described the pothole as a “death trap,” stating that it is beyond their capacity to fix.

They criticized the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) for failing to allocate resources for road extension and expansion, despite the heavy traffic from Rubanga Parish seeking services from Kebisoni Town Council and Ntungamo District.

Obed Ngoga, a boda boda rider in the area, highlighted the risks of accidents, loss of luggage, and the difficulty of pushing motorcycles during slippery conditions.

Ampwera Caroline Nuwamanya, a middle-aged woman, emphasized the challenges faced by pregnant mothers, the sick, and disabled persons who are often denied transport services due to the fear of accidents at the spot.

Nshereko David, an elderly resident, recounted how he lost his jaw in an accident involving his bicycle at the same location.

Benon Musasizi, the LC1 Chairperson of Kakinga Cell, pointed out that poor road conditions have negatively affected both transport and trade, as the road is a key connection to the market. He stated that previous attempts to fix the pothole had failed and urged the government to take immediate action.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the LC3 Chairperson of Buyanja Sub County, commended the residents for their concern and assured them that the responsibility for the road lies with UNRA. He criticized UNRA for the poor state of its roads and called for urgent intervention.
