Residents of Kakanena 2, Rugarama North Sub-county in Ntungamo District, are reeling in shock following a tragic murder-suicide that occurred in their community in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It is alleged that at around 2:00 am, Banyenzaki David, a resident of Kakanena 2, brutally murdered his wife, only identified as Kembabazi, by slaughtering her. The couple, both in their 50s, were parents to five children and were reportedly experiencing ongoing domestic conflicts.
According to reports, after committing the gruesome act, Banyenzaki called his mother to confess to the crime and expressed his intention to take his own life. Alarmed by the call, the mother immediately reached out to another son, Godfrey, urging him to check on Banyenzaki’s home. Upon arrival, Godfrey found the house empty, but after searching the surroundings, he discovered Banyenzaki’s lifeless body hanging from a tree in a nearby sloped area leading to Kakanena Parish.
Authorities have yet to release an official report on the incident, and the bodies of the deceased remain at their home in Kakanena as investigations continue. The shocking event has left the community in deep sorrow, with residents calling for increased efforts to address domestic violence and provide conflict resolution support to struggling families.
