Residents of Nyeibingo and Garubunda Parishes in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, are expressing dissatisfaction with the complications caused by the state of Omukabale bridge, which is impeding the local transport network.

Situated at the boundary of Kebisoni Sub County and Kebisoni Town Council, the bridge connects Kebisoni Sub County with Kebisoni Town, linking Kanyeganyegye Cell in Garubunda Parish, Kebisoni Sub County, and Nkongoro Cell of Northern Ward in Kebisoni Town Council.

Omukabale bridge is a crucial link along the road to Omuritaano trading center, which extends to Nyeibingo Parish and is commonly used by residents and travelers to access Ndama hill. Ndama hill serves as a hub for schools, the Catholic Parish Church, a health center, and Kebisoni Town.

Residents report that although the road underwent renovation and was covered with murram early last year (2023), the bridge was neglected. Alex Posiano, a resident of Katenga Cell in Nyeibingo Parish and a special hire transport service provider, mentions that they now have to take a longer route to reach Ndama hill. They either pass through Mabanga Parish or go through Kebisoni Town, even though the abandoned route with the bridge would be a more convenient shortcut.

Bogere Francis, a resident of Kitenga Cell in Garubunda Parish and a businessman, expresses frustration, stating that their complaints have yielded no results. He adds that they are prepared to demand accountability during the next general elections.

Richard Karani, the Town Council Councilor representing Northern Ward, mentions that Omukabale bridge was included in the budget, and he is puzzled by the delays in addressing its condition.

Alex Nathan Mugabe, the Chairperson of LC3 Kebisoni Town Council, explains that they only had funds allocated for the road itself. He reveals that they have requested culverts from the Ministry of Works and Transport, but as of now, there has been no positive response.
