Residents of Buhandagazi Cell in Nyabiteete Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri district, are expressing dissatisfaction with the Rukungiri Municipality’s failure to refurbish the deteriorating Rubabo road connecting them to Rukungiri town.

The road’s condition has worsened due to heavy rains, rendering it impassable.

Frustrated locals note that motorists have resorted to alternative routes such as Buyanja and Rwenkuraijo, resulting in increased fares from sh. 3,000 to a range of sh. 7,000 to sh. 10,000. Boda boda cyclists highlight the perilous state of Kafunjo Bridge along Rubabo road, citing potholes and stones that pose a threat of collapse, especially during heavy rains.

Transporting patients and goods to Rukungiri town has become challenging, and despite notifying leaders about the issue, there has been no response. The residents are urging district authorities to take prompt action before potential loss of lives and are willing to protest if necessary.

Responding to the concerns, Prosper Tagobya, the Deputy Town Clerk, acknowledges the delay in road renovations due to heavy rains but assures that the road maintenance has commenced. He states that funds are available for a comprehensive renovation of all poorly conditioned roads within the municipality.
