Residents of Buhandagazi Cell in Nyabiteete Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri district, are expressing dissatisfaction with the district’s failure to renovate the Rubabo road, a vital link to Rukungiri town. The road’s condition is deteriorating further due to heavy rains, rendering it impassable and horrendous for commuters.

Motorists have resorted to alternative routes like Buyanja and Rwenkurijo, causing fares to skyrocket from sh. 3,000 to between sh. 7,000 and sh. 10,000. Boda boda cyclists are particularly concerned about the precarious state of Kafunjo Bridge along Rubabo road, citing potholes and stones that pose a serious threat, pushing it toward collapse.

Transporting patients and goods to Rukungiri town has become a formidable challenge, despite residents alerting leaders to address the issue, falling on deaf ears. Frustrated, they warn of potential protests if prompt action is not taken to prevent potential loss of lives.

Albert Rwamugaata, the district councilor for Buyanja Sub County, urged users of Rubabo road to exercise patience, revealing that road renovation falls under the municipality’s jurisdiction. He pledged to raise the matter in the district council for urgent attention.

Despite attempts to contact municipal authorities, calls went unanswered, adding to the urgency of the situation.
