Excitement and gratitude filled Northern A Ward, Western Division, as the long-awaited construction of the Rorycon-Mukatooma Kabasiraamu road began.
Residents and local leaders expressed hope that the project will address transportation challenges and drive economic development in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Western Division Speaker Mathias Kamusiime praised the community members who generously gave up land to facilitate the road’s construction, with special recognition for Kabaka Mashahure, who initiated efforts to open the road. Kamusiime also commended the collaborative spirit of local leaders, including LC1 chairpersons from Kagarama, Kwakahiju, and Omukareere cells.
“The cooperation between residents, leaders, and the technical council, who fueled the tractor to kick-start this project, is a testament to our shared commitment to development,” Kamusiime said.
Tycoon Kashumbusha, LC1 chairperson of Kagarama B cell, expressed optimism about the road’s potential to boost economic growth. He highlighted his family’s contribution of land for the project, saying, “This road will help residents transport their harvests and goods to market more efficiently, enhancing trade and development.” Kashumbusha extended gratitude to Boona Radio, local leaders, and the NRM government for their support.
Venansio Karyesiga, LC1 chairperson of Kagarama A cell, noted that the road construction had been a long-held goal for the community. “Residents have endured difficulties, including carrying sick patients on stretchers to access medical care,” Karyesiga said. He added that the road would not only improve transportation but also increase the value of local land, benefiting the community economically.
Councillor Behimbisa Christopher, commonly known as Science, highlighted the hardships faced by residents, who previously carried building materials on their heads and used wheelbarrows due to the lack of proper infrastructure. “This road will connect residents to churches, trading centers, and other vital locations, significantly improving their lives,” Science said.
Leaders and residents collectively expressed their gratitude for the cooperation and contributions that made the road project possible, underscoring its importance for the future development of Rukungiri Municipality.
