The territorial police in Rukungiri District have arrested Tuhamize Sperius, a resident of Nyabakobora Village, Bwanga Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, for allegedly murdering his wife, Kiiza Doreen, 37.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on the night of January 13, 2025, at their residence in Nyabakobora Village. According to preliminary investigations, Tuhamize and his wife had a domestic quarrel around 11:00 PM, during which he accused her of infidelity. In a fit of rage, he allegedly picked up a stick and assaulted her, causing fatal injuries.
Following the incident, Tuhamize locked the house and turned himself in at Kiyenje Police Post at approximately 5:30 AM the next day. He informed officers about his actions, prompting the Officer in Charge to notify the area chairperson, Kanohire Benson, to verify the situation.
Accompanied by his brother, Byakoramu Wilson, the chairperson visited the suspect’s home and confirmed that Kiiza Doreen had passed away.
The police registered a case of murder and visited the scene to document evidence. A stick, believed to have been used in the assault, was recovered. Witness statements were recorded, and Kiiza’s body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing. Once complete, the suspect will be arraigned in court to face murder charges.
This incident underscores the urgent need to address domestic violence in communities and seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
