A delegation from the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has agreed to maintain regular interactions to enhance coordination between the two forces.
The Deputy Commander of the UPDF Land Forces, Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, revealed this while officiating the closure of a four-day proximity commanders’ meeting held at Igongo Country Hotel in Bubaare, Mbarara City North Division.
Maj. Gen. Takirwa noted that both forces, which share the Uganda-Rwanda border, are committed to strengthening cross-border security cooperation.
During the meeting, it was observed that some individuals cross through porous borders for business transactions, which is illegal. In response, stakeholders, especially immigration authorities, were urged to decentralize control points and establish a mid-way customs post to facilitate the legal movement of people.
The Rwandan Army delegation, led by Brig. Gen. Pascal Muhizi, Commander of the RDF 5th Division, was warmly received at the Mirama Hills border post by UPDF officers, headed by the Second Division Commander, Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi.
