A 31-year-old primary school teacher from Kabale District has been charged and remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison on accusations of defiling a 17-year-old primary school pupil at his school.

The prosecution, led by Isaac Onyango, informed the court presided over by His Worship Julius Mutabazi, the Kabale Grade I Magistrate, that on October 21, 2026, at Triple M Primary School in Hamurambi Village, Kaharo Sub County, Kabale District, the accused, Ambrose Rukundo, who held a position of authority as a teacher, engaged in an unlawful sexual act with a 17-year-old student.

The court was told that Rukundo lured the victim into the staff room under the pretext of fetching books and took advantage of being alone with her, allegedly coercing her into a sexual encounter without using protection. Afterward, he purportedly gave the victim 5,000 Ugandan Shillings and instructed her to remain silent. However, the victim reported the incident to her father.

Due to the gravity of the offense, Onyango emphasized that Rukundo should not enter a plea, and ongoing investigations are taking place.

His Worship Mutabazi determined that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear this capital offense, and therefore, Rukundo was not allowed to plead. Instead, he ruled that the case would be mentioned, adjourned, and Rukundo would be remanded in Ndorwa Government Prison until October 31, 2023, when the case would be brought up for further discussion.
