Deputy Mayor Priska Mulongo of Mbarara City’s South Division, while presiding over a parents-teachers meeting at Mbarara Quality Kindergarten in Lugazi, emphasized the importance of parents taking a keen interest in their children’s education. She urged parents who could afford to pay school fees to invest in their children’s educational qualifications, which are crucial for their future well-being.

Mrs. Mulongo made it clear that providing a child with the knowledge and skills, symbolized by a pen, is a far more valuable and enduring treasure than encouraging them to inherit businesses or acquire earthly assets like farms and buildings.

Mbarara Quality Kindergarten Lugazi, which has been operating for five years, has been consistently increasing its student enrollment.

The school’s headmistress and one of its directors, Mrs. Jesca Asasira, appealed to parents to foster a nurturing and supportive environment for their children. She stressed the importance of providing essential school supplies promptly to facilitate a conducive teaching and learning process. Mrs. Asasira also highlighted that conflicts, harassment, and abuse among parents can negatively impact a child’s mental and physical development, ultimately affecting their intelligence quotient and willingness to be with their parents.

Furthermore, Mrs. Asasira encouraged parents to allow their children to sing songs in their local languages and related to their cultural beliefs to instill moral and cultural values, which are the foundation of exemplary discipline.

Mpiima Jaffar, the director of Mbarara Quality Kindergarten, encouraged parents to develop the habit of waking up with their children and spending quality time with them, even upon returning home. This practice helps children learn time management and financial responsibility, contributing to improved household economic well-being.
