The growing number of patients and deliveries, along with a shortage of available beds, has become a major concern for the authorities at Mparo Health Center IV in Rukiga District.
In response to this urgent situation, the leaders of Rukiga District have requested immediate assistance from the government, particularly the Ministry of Health, to expedite the process of upgrading Mparo Health Centre IV to a hospital. The goal is to enhance healthcare services within the district.
Currently, Mparo Health Centre IV is the primary healthcare facility in the district targeted for elevation to a district hospital. The center is currently referring patients with severe complications to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. To address the immediate challenges they are facing, the health center has received a donation of essential healthcare items, including 15 hospital beds, tables, medical storage cabinets, and an infant incubator.
During the recent donation ceremony, Dr. Mucugunzi Godfrey, the head of Mparo Health Centre IV, revealed that they are dealing with an average daily influx of 30 patients, which exceeds the facility’s bed capacity. As a result, some patients are forced to sleep on the floor due to the overwhelming demand for services.
Dr. Mucugunzi expressed his gratitude for the donated healthcare items and emphasized the vital role they will play in addressing the pressing issue at hand. These items were donated by Honorable Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi, the Woman Member of Parliament for Rukiga district, and they are essential for improving patient care and the facility’s capabilities.
Honorable Kamusiime expressed her hope that the donated items will make a significant contribution to reducing the mortality rate, particularly among mothers in the district.
