The Curate of Kagamba Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Asingwire, has raised concern over the growing neglect of the boy child, warning that failure by parents and guardians to properly nurture young boys could have serious consequences for families and society in the future.

Fr. Asingwire urged parents to take equal responsibility in guiding and mentoring boys in the church just as they do with girls, emphasizing that unequal attention to children based on gender can create social imbalances.

He made the remarks yesterday while comforting mourners during the burial of the late Tumushabe Silverio, also known as Kamushiling, of Rutooma Central in Nyakibigi Parish, Ihunga Sub-county, Kajara County, Ntungamo District.

According to Fr. Asingwire, neglecting boys exposes them to risky behaviours such as drug abuse, crime, and alcoholism. He noted that this trend could lead to a future shortage of responsible husbands and fathers in society.

Citing a 2020 report by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Fr. Asingwire pointed out that about 78 percent of Uganda’s prison population is made up of males, many of whom entered the criminal justice system at a young age due to a lack of proper guidance and support.

Fr. Asingwire, who was flanked by the catechist of Kako Catholic Centre, praised the late Tumushabe Silverio Kamushiling for raising his children to become responsible citizens.

The Chairperson of Ihunga Sub-county, Nfunzaki Deo, also urged parents to keep their children in school to secure a better future and warned against criminal activities in the area.

Speaking during the burial, the widow, Edridah Knight Tumushabe, described her late husband as a man of integrity, humility, and dedication to family development. She thanked relatives, friends, and well-wishers who supported the family during their time of grief.

On behalf of the children, Bosco Kitemu and Ainembabazi Regina praised their father for nurturing, educating, and guiding them to become responsible individuals.

The late Tumushabe Silverio Kamushiling passed away at the age of 66. He is survived by his widow, four children, and several grandchildren.
