Thousands of enthusiastic supporters have gathered at Kanungu District Local Government Playground to welcome the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is on a tour of the Kigezi sub-region.
As part of his visit, the President is set to launch the Kanungu NRM Nyekundire Group, an association of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters founded by Kinkizi East Member of Parliament and Minister, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi. The group aims to strengthen party structures and mobilize support for the NRM in the district.
Earlier in the day, President Museveni began his engagements in Kanungu by meeting a Parish Development Model (PDM) farmer in Nyamirama Sub-county, where he assessed the impact of the government’s flagship anti-poverty initiative. The PDM program, which targets the socio-economic transformation of Ugandans at the parish level, has been a key focus of the President’s agenda.
The Head of State is on a tour of the Kigezi sub-region, which he commenced on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Later in the afternoon, he is expected to meet leaders from across Kigezi at Rukungiri Main Stadium, where discussions will center on development programs, governance, and the region’s progress under the NRM government.
Residents and local leaders have expressed excitement over the President’s visit, noting that his presence reaffirms the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and development in the region.
