Residents of Kanyakyende and Rwibumba villages in Bugangari parish Bungagari sub county Rukungiri district have expressed their dissatisfaction over the delayed construction of their bridge along river Rwibumba for over five years.

According to a section of residents led by Arthur Tabaaro the Kanyakyende village chairperson said the Rukungiri roads committee that was in place in 2018 led by the former Rujumbura county legislator Hon Fred Turyamuhweza promised to work on the road whereby they also brought pipes in that but after changing of the leaders no leader made a follow-up.

Tabaaro added that they are now surprised to find that the Rukungiri works department has started taking away pipes to other places yet they were to work on their road to connect to other villages and Bikurungu town council.

He says now residents have started blaming him for taking away their pipes yet he is innocent.

Micheal Byarugaba the secretary for works and production in Rukungiri district told the residents that they have never received their complaint but since he sits on the district roads committee he is going to make a follow-up on the matter.

The Rukungiri district acting engineer, Julius Bagira when contacted on the issue, said they took away five pipes to work on emergency bridges but he has already informed the Rukungiri members of parliament about the issue of insufficient pipes and as soon as they get more they Kanyakyende issues will be worked upon.

Hon Dr Elisa Rutahigwa the Rukungiri district roads committee chairperson assured residents of Rwibumba and Kanyakyenda that he is going to direct the engineer to solve their issue adding that no pipe will be taken away again in addition to coordination with Minister Jim Muhwezi their areas legislator to look for a quick response about their issue.
