As the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams begin today, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, has warned schools against engaging in examination malpractice.

ASP Maate made the remarks while addressing journalists Monday morning during the disbursement of exam papers at Kabale Central Police Station. He emphasized that security teams are on high alert to monitor the distribution of exams and will take strict action against any school involved in malpractice. He cautioned that such schools will face severe consequences.

Medard Turamyomwe, the headteacher of Nyamweru Seed School in Rubanda District, stated that students are well-prepared to sit for the exams without fear. He noted that they have been trained on the new curriculum and expressed relief that the favorable weather will facilitate the smooth transportation of exam materials, despite the school’s remote location.

Nasser Kimuli, the chief supervisor at the Kabale Examination Centre, urged headteachers to keep school gates open to allow easy supervision.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), a total of 379,620 students have registered to sit for the UCE exams, which will run until November 15th, 2024.
