Police is investigating a tragic accident that left more than thirty mourners fighting for their lives after a tipper truck overturned Monday afternoon at Omukenyanya in Rwentobo-Rwahi Town Council, along the busy Kabale-Mbarara road.
The victims, residents of Kandago in Rukiga District, were en route to a burial in Kyabukuju cell, Rubaare Town Council, when the yet-to-be-identified driver reportedly lost control, causing the truck to flip. Witnesses alleged that the truck was dangerously overloaded with about 55 passengers.
Emergency response teams swiftly rushed to the scene, transporting the injured to various medical facilities. At least 12 victims were admitted at Karuhanga Doctors Referral Hospital with severe head injuries and facial wounds, while others in critical condition were referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
Among those affected is Mr. Felix Turinawe from Muhanga Town Council, whose mother is among the injured.
Police say no deaths had been confirmed by the time of their initial assessment and promised to release an official statement and the list of the injured after completing investigations.
