Authorities in Kanungu are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Teopista Tibabuza, a 77-year-old resident of Group Farm Cell in Kibiimbiri Parish, Kihihi Sub County, Kanungu District.
The incident came to light when Pastor Tumugabe Gerald, who had gone to Teopista’s residence for a fellowship, discovered her lifeless body in her bed.
The alleged events leading to the discovery unfolded on November 20, 2023, around midday at Group Farm B Cell. Pastor Tumugabe Gerald noticed that Teopista’s home was locked, and the compound appeared neglected. After attempting to contact her with no response, he sought information from a neighbor, Peace, the wife of Ndagije, who confirmed they had not seen Teopista. Pastor Tumugabe Gerald then noticed a small opening at the back door, which Teopista typically used. Upon entering, he tragically found Teopista deceased on her bed.
It was revealed that Pastor Tumugabe Gerald had prayed for Teopista the previous evening, addressing her complaints of back pain. Further investigation uncovered that Teopista had recently sold a garden of maize, although the specific amount remains undisclosed.
The son-in-law, John Mugisha, reported the matter to the police. Teopista’s body was discovered lying on the left side at the edge of the bed, showing signs of a swollen eye, bruises, and fresh scratches indicative of strangulation on the neck. Law enforcement visited the scene of the crime, conducted a postmortem on-site, and subsequently released the body to relatives for a dignified burial.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities have initiated inquiries to ascertain the circumstances leading to Teopista Tibabuza’s tragic demise.
