Police in Bushenyi District are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death of a police officer in a single, initially non-lethal accident.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, has identified the deceased as Police Constable Vincent Opolot, bearing badge number 63982. PC Vincent Opolot was assigned to the traffic police in Bushenyi District.
The accident in question, which initially appeared to be non-fatal but later turned tragic, involved a Yamaha motorcycle with the registration number UP 6665, painted in a striking blue color.
This incident occurred on the 15th of October 2023, around 8:30 PM, at a location near St. Kagwa, right across from the Bam Petro Station along the Bushenyi-Kasese highway.
According to Tumusiime, the motorcycle was traveling from the direction of Bushenyi towards Ishaka. Unfortunately, it encountered a pothole on the road, leading to a loss of control and a severe accident. The rider and PC Opolot sustained serious injuries.
Both victims were promptly rushed to the Kampala International Teaching Hospital after the accident. Tragically, PC Vincent Opolot succumbed to his injuries at approximately 11:28 PM.
