Police in Isingiro district has opened inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of Tumusime Richmond aged 11 years a primary five pupil at Citizen Nursery and Primary School whose suspected cause of death is poisoning.

Reportedly, at approximately 1:00 PM on September 24, 2023, the deceased had his lunch and subsequently consumed water from his bottle, which is suspected to have been contaminated with poison. He cautioned his classmates not to drink from his bottle, claiming that it contained a drink known as “jolly jas” meant exclusively for his consumption.

Shortly after taking the water, he started vomiting and then became unconscious. He was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital around 02:00 p.m. for treatment but later passed away at around 08:00 p.m.

According to preliminary investigations, the colleagues informed the police that the deceased was unhappy being in boarding school because he was not used to eating posho and beans only.

By the time of filing this story, the body of the deceased was still in the mortuary at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital pending postmortem.
