The territorial police in Rukiga District are investigating an incident of vandalism and theft that occurred on the night of April 4, 2025, in Nyakitabire Cell, Muhanga Ward, Town Council.

Unknown individuals are alleged to have damaged the main water pumping line and the distribution line supplying water to Kamwezi areas. The culprits reportedly stole 35 galvanized metallic pipes, each 3 inches in diameter and 19.4 feet in length, with a diameter of 90mm.

According to Jonan Musinguzi, the commercial officer for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), the authorities were alerted early this morning, and a case of malicious damage to property and theft was officially filed. Investigations have since been launched.

Police visited the scene of the crime and collected statements from witnesses. Preliminary findings suggest that the water reservoir was empty, and the suspects used a handle axle blade to cut the pipes. Some of the stolen pipes were found and recovered at the scene. However, the area had been contaminated by neighbors, and heavy rainfall had affected the integrity of the crime scene, limiting the use of police canine units.

Authorities continue their investigation and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the damage and theft.
