Police in Kabale District have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 45-year-old man whose body was discovered along a footpath leading to the Kabale–Mbarara Highway.

The deceased has been identified as Arineitwe Elias, also known as Maziwa, a resident of Kabaraga Village, Kaharo Sub-County, Kabale District.

According to  ASP Maate Elly Police Public Relations Officer, Kigezi Region  , on January 3, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., the lifeless body of Arineitwe Elias was found lying next to a sweet potato garden belonging to a resident identified as Enock. The discovery was made by Anita, a local resident, who alerted other community members. The information was later communicated to the deceased’s widow, Kemigisha Evalyne.

The incident was reported to Kaharo Police Station by the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Kaharo Sub-County, before the case was transferred to Kabale Central Police Station for further investigations.

A team from the Kabale Homicide Unit, including the K-9 Unit, visited and documented the scene. However, the canine unit did not yield any immediate leads.

The body was subsequently conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.

Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that may aid the investigations.
