Residents of Kisiizi and Bikongozo parishes have expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of essential service delivery and endorsed the return of former Rubabo County Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula, ahead of the forthcoming General Elections.

The concerns were raised during the Rukungiri District Woman MP NRM flag bearer rally, where Hon. Mary Paula was campaigning in Kisiizi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county, and Bikongozo Parish in Nyakishenyi Sub-county.

Frustrated residents from various cells in Kisiizi Parish told the rally that the leadership which replaced Hon. Mary Paula after the 2021 General Elections has completely failed to continue the development initiatives she had started. They credited Hon. Mary Paula for transforming Rubabo County into a model area through improved social and economic services during her tenure.

Residents noted that since her defeat in 2021, service delivery has declined, leading to development stagnation and worsening living conditions. They described their decision not to re-elect her in 2021 as a mistake driven by arrogance and pledged full support for her return to Parliament. They also endorsed Andrewson Katebire Charles, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and all NRM flag bearers in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a rally held at Kataate Cell in Bikongozo Parish, Mr. Rodgers, the Chief Mobiliser for Kinkizi East MP and Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, represented the area MP and praised Hon. Mary Paula as a cooperative, hardworking, and results-oriented NRM leader. He said she had made history in Rubabo County through the delivery of essential services.

Mr. Rodgers noted that residents of Rubabo have faced numerous challenges over the past five years following Hon. Mary Paula’s exit from Parliament. He urged voters not to repeat the mistake made in the 2021 elections and called for massive support for Hon. Mary Paula, all NRM flag bearers, and President Museveni to restore effective service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Rukungiri District Woman MP aspirant and NRM flag bearer, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, thanked residents for the overwhelming support shown to her during the NRM primaries. She appealed for vote protection and support from voters across all political parties, emphasizing that service delivery and socio-economic development should take precedence over political affiliations.

Hon. Mary Paula reminded residents that during her third term as Rubabo MP, she played a key role in the establishment of Boona FM in 2018, which contributed to local development. She said the trust voters placed in her during that term enabled her to deliver tangible results.

Addressing ongoing challenges, including lack of electricity and clean water in some areas, Hon. Mary Paula said the affected locations have already been surveyed. She pledged that once elected Rukungiri District Woman MP, she would ensure completion of projects such as the Kahengye water project and continue lobbying for further developments, including the establishment of Boona TV.
