Police in Mbarara District have launched investigations into the murder of Akakunda Rita, a 25-year-old resident of Bwizibwera Cell, Rutooma Town Council.
Two suspects, Byamukama Javira Mawuruba, 19, a casual laborer, and Kembabazi Winnie, 30, who is the sister-in-law to the deceased, are currently in custody in connection with the crime.
The matter came to light after veterinary doctor Karegyeya Brighton reported the discovery of Rita’s lifeless body. A team of officers swiftly responded to the scene and initiated a forensic examination. Police dog “Honey” was deployed to track evidence and successfully led investigators to a set of blood-stained clothes hidden at the residence of Namutebi Jolly, which were later identified as belonging to Byamukama.
Upon interrogation, Byamukama allegedly confessed to the murder, revealing that he had been hired by Kembabazi to kill Rita over personal disputes between the two women.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they prepare charges against the suspects.
