Police in Sheema District have launched an investigation following the discovery of a human skeleton in a swamp in Katongo 1 Cell, Kyeibanga West Parish, Kitagata Sub-county.

The remains, believed to belong to a middle-aged man, were found under suspicious circumstances at an unknown time and date.

According to Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, the skeletal remains were discovered in Ndurumo Swamp. Tumusiime reported that the body is suspected to have been burned by a bushfire after being dumped in the swamp.

The remains have been transferred to Kitagata Hospital for a post-mortem examination and DNA analysis. Police are now waiting for someone to come forward and claim the body.

Francis Ntungwa, 57, the Chairman of L/C 1 Katongo 1 Village, reported the incident to the police after receiving information from the local community. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to uncover the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
