Police in Rukiga District have arrested and charged two individuals in connection with allegations of voter bribery during the recently concluded NRM primary elections for the District Woman Member of Parliament flag bearer.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, the arrests follow a complaint received on August 6, 2025, regarding incidents that allegedly occurred on July 17, 2025, in Sendi Village, Mparo Town Council. A General Enquiry File (GEF 009/2025) was opened to investigate suspected bribery of voters and corrupt dealings with election agents.
With support from local leaders and intelligence officers, police positively identified the two suspects seen in a video clip distributing money to voters after the voting exercise. The suspects, Twesigye Julius and Niwahereza Godwin, both residents of Sendi Village, were apprehended and formally charged with conspiracy to commit a felony — specifically, voter bribery.
They appeared before the Chief Magistrates Court in Kabale on Thursday afternoon for plea taking.
ASP Maate emphasized that the police remain committed to upholding electoral integrity and holding accountable those who undermine democratic processes.
