Police in Kisoro have arrested Ronald Mfitumukiza, accused of murdering his 75-year-old biological mother, Consilata Nyirabagenzi. The incident occurred on November 30, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM in Kanyamegeri Village, Chihe Parish, Nyakinama Sub-county, Kisoro District.
According to reports, the deceased, Consilata Nyirabagenzi, had sought help at Yesu Arakiza Pentecostal Church. She approached Pastor Uwimana Jesca and other women, requesting their assistance in restraining her son, who had reportedly turned violent, breaking household property and throwing items out of the house.
When Nyirabagenzi and the group of women arrived at her home, Mfitumukiza allegedly picked up a piece of wood embedded with nails and struck his mother on the head. The blow was fatal, and Nyirabagenzi died instantly.
The incident was reported to Nyakinama Police Post by Gasore Edward, and Kisoro Central Police Station was subsequently alerted. Officers visited and documented the crime scene, conducted a postmortem examination on-site, and handed the body over to relatives for a decent burial. The suspect, Ronald Mfitumukiza, was arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
