Police in Rubirizi District are hunting for a middle-aged man on allegations of attempted murder.
The incident happened on 01/09/2024 at around 4:00 PM in Kigyezi Village, Ndekye Ward in Rubirizi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Francis Ssebayinda, a peasant and resident of the above-named address.
Tumusiime further identified the victim as Anitah Anomugisha, 30, a peasant and resident of Kibuka Cell, Kabeti Ward in Rubirizi District.
It is alleged that Anomugisha went to her father-in-law’s place, one Kizito Mukama, to help her mother-in-law harvest coffee.
They went to the garden and returned home at around 4:00 PM when they met the suspect, who is the victim’s brother-in-law. He attacked them and cut the victim with a panga on the head and back and also tried to cut his mother, but neighbors came to their rescue, and the suspect ran away.
According to Kizito Mukama, 57, who reported the case to police, the suspect sold his share of family land last month and wasted all the money. When he came back to sell another piece of family land, the family members all refused him, which annoyed him and prompted him to act the way he did.
Tumusiime said the victim was rushed to Kampala International Teaching Hospital in Ishaka in critical condition for treatment as investigations into the matter are ongoing.
