Police in Rubanda District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 31-year-old man whose decomposing body was discovered in Hamuhambo Town Council. The deceased, Nelson Nasasira, a casual labourer and resident of Kyarujumba Cell, Bunyonyi Ward, was found dead on Tuesday, December 24th, 2025, in Kataraga Cell.

According to police, Nasasira was last seen on December 20th after leaving home with a friend only identified as Justus to burn charcoal in Kataraga Cell, a few metres from Hamuhambo Town Centre. He never returned home, prompting his wife, Nahurira Saviour, to report his disappearance to local leaders.

The body was discovered after the deceased’s brother, Tayebwa Bright, followed up the matter and was led to the suspected charcoal-burning site, where a strong stench and houseflies raised suspicion. Local leaders were alerted and later found the body lying in a pool of blood, covered with eucalyptus tree branches.

Police officers from Rubanda, led by the District CID Officer D/ASP Kabogoza Fatina and the District Scene of Crime Officer, visited and documented the scene. Statements were recorded, and the body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

A murder case has since been registered at Rubanda Police Station. Police say the suspect, Justus, who was last seen with the deceased, is still on the run, and investigations are ongoing.

The police have called on the public to cooperate by providing any information that may help in tracing the suspect.
