The territorial police in Kisoro District have launched a manhunt for a woman accused of murdering her husband following a domestic dispute.
The suspect, identified as Juliet Nyiraguhirwe, a resident of Gasenyi Village in Mabungo Parish, Nyarusiza Sub-county, is alleged to have killed her husband, Bosco Rurakabije, 35, in the early hours of April 7, 2026.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. at the couple’s home. It is alleged that Rurakabije returned home intoxicated and picked a quarrel with his wife in the presence of their 15-year-old son, Irakiza Fabiano.
During the altercation, the deceased reportedly grabbed a knife and attempted to stab his wife. However, Nyiraguhirwe is said to have overpowered him, seized the weapon, and stabbed him twice in the back before fleeing the scene to an unknown location.
The case was reported to police by the area LC1 chairperson, Venansi Munyanganizi. Police officers visited and documented the scene of crime, recovering key exhibits including a knife and a slasher.
The body of the deceased was later transported to Kisoro Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police further revealed that the couple had a history of domestic violence, which is believed to have contributed to the fatal incident.
Efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing, while investigations into the matter continue.
