The Territorial Police in Kanungu are searching for a man accused of brutally killing his father, Bagambana Nyansio, a 75-year-old resident of Kanjara Cell, Southern Ward, Kanungu Town Council. The suspect, identified as Erias Nahabwe, allegedly murdered his father on February 4, 2025, after a confrontation over money and land documents.

Reports indicate that on the day of the incident, Nyansio woke up feeling unwell and requested money from his son to seek medical treatment at Katate Health Center IV. When Nahabwe refused, the elderly man grew frustrated and demanded his land documents to sell part of the land to raise funds for his treatment. The son’s refusal to comply led to a heated argument. At around 11:30 AM, Nyansio left for the health center, while his wife went to a nearby bar.

When his wife returned around 7:00 PM, she found her husband dead in their home, with his head brutally severed. A bloodstained panga, suspected to be the murder weapon, was abandoned beside his body. The police were alerted by the area chairperson, Twesigye Koronerio, and a team, including a canine unit, was dispatched to the scene.

Following an investigation, police recorded statements from witnesses and tracked the suspect to his home using the police dog, but Nahabwe is currently on the run. Authorities have also noted that the deceased’s herdsman is also missing under suspicious circumstances.

The body of Nyansio has been transferred to Katate Health Center IV for postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing, and police are working to locate the key suspects involved in the incident.

ASP Elly Maate, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kigezi Region, confirmed that inquiries are continuing.
