Police in Rukungiri District have arrested two suspects in connection with a case of kidnap and aggravated robbery that occurred on January 20, 2025, along Republic Road in Rukungiri municipality.

According to police reports, Atwine Daniel, a 24-year-old student from Kitanda Cell, Nyakaina Parish, Buyanja Sub County, was allegedly kidnapped and robbed of UGX 31,850,000 by unidentified individuals traveling in a white Toyota Wish, registration number UBH 905Y.

Following an extensive investigation, police ICT experts blacklisted the vehicle, leading to its sighting and impoundment.

The driver, identified as Tugeineyo Isaac, was arrested to aid in the investigations. A subsequent vehicle search uncovered key evidence, including two sharp pangas, a knife, a two-meter-long factory rope, a 10-liter jerrican, a pair of white canvas shoes, and several clothing items, all taken as exhibits.

Further inquiries led to the arrest of the vehicle’s owner, Ainebyona Angellous, for further questioning.

The two suspects were charged and appeared in court on January 30, 2025, facing two counts of Kidnap and aggravated robbery.

Police say investigations into the case are still ongoing.
