Police in Rukungiri District have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a candidate during the ongoing Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
The suspect, identified as Cleophas Mbamanyire, a student of Kampala University Luwero Campus pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with Education, and a resident of Ruhabo 2A Cell, Rutunguru Parish, Ihunga Sub County in Ntungamo District, was found sitting a UNEB Geography paper at Bugangari Secondary School on behalf of one Akampurira Brenda.
The incident occurred this morning, 13th November 2025, at around 11:00 a.m., following a tip-off from the Chief Invigilator, Mr. Masiko Ambrose, who quickly alerted authorities.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, statements have been recorded from witnesses, and relevant documents, including examination materials, have been retrieved to aid in investigations.
ASP Maate commended the vigilance of the invigilator and examination officials for promptly detecting the malpractice, which helps to protect the integrity of national examinations.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
