The Vice Chairperson NRM Western Region, Eng. Jonard Akiiki Asiimwe, has urged NRM flag bearers and party leaders in Rukungiri District to maintain unity, peace, and focus as the campaign season intensifies.
Eng. Akiiki made the remarks on Friday during a meeting held at the Rukungiri District Hall, convened to strengthen mobilization efforts ahead of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s visit on 26th November 2025.
He applauded Rukungiri for its history of political cohesion and strong support for the NRM, noting that the district has consistently demonstrated unity in previous elections. He emphasized that peace is one of the greatest gains the party must continue to protect.
“Rukungiri has shown unity over the years, and we must work tightly together to secure an even bigger percentage this time. Leadership must have vision, and this political season should not be a do-or-die exercise.”
Eng. Akiiki further urged aspirants to focus on development and wealth creation, stressing that leaders must mobilize their communities door-to-door to ensure maximum support during the President’s upcoming tour.
During the same meeting, Brian Tumukunde, an NRM mobilizer in Rukungiri District, raised concerns from the public regarding challenges in mobilization, especially inadequate funds and youth involvement.
“People are asking for mobilization funds, and we cannot leave out the youth in this struggle. These concerns must be addressed if we are to mobilize effectively.”
Aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District, Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, applauded Eng. Akiiki for organizing the engagement, noting that it provided an opportunity for leaders to present the district’s challenges ahead of the President’s visit.
She highlighted key issues including delayed extension of clean water to Bwambara, Bugangari, and other areas, as well as gaps in rural electrification.
“Rukungiri has outstanding challenges that must be addressed, but despite everything, our support remains strong. We shall do all it takes to ensure NRM wins with a bigger percentage.”
Retired General Henry Tumukunde, an aspiring MP for Rukungiri Municipality, also appreciated the regional vice chairperson for convening the meeting and called for early release of mobilization funds to enable prior preparations.
“Let us prepare adequately to welcome the President and mobilize strongly so that he wins with a bigger percentage in the forthcoming general elections.”
The meeting ended with renewed commitments from aspirants and mobilizers to strengthen grassroots structures and ensure overwhelming support for President Museveni’s visit and the 2026 general elections.
