Arrangements to relocate vendors from the Ibanda central market to pave the way for the reconstruction of the market are underway.

Over 608 Vendors at the Ibanda central Market will soon be relocated to alternative areas following an agreement between the Ibanda Municipal Council and the Ministry of Local Government to construct a modern central market worth over 30BN shillings.

Speaking to our reporter, Johnbosco Brown Kabagambe the chairperson of Ibanda Central Market vendors said that the vendors will be temporarily transferred to the current Lorry Park.

He said that as executive committee of the market, they have already visited the new place where they will be relocated to and municipality officials are currently working on health and security matters before relocating exercise.

Some vendors from Ibanda central market who spoke to our reporter welcomed the initiative of constructing a new modern market but urged municipal leaders to work hand in hand with the current vendors’ leadership and not be corrupt during the time of allocating stalls when the construction of a multi-billion market is complete.

Apollo Twine Kibeherere the Ibanda municipality mayor said that currently they are installing security lights around the place of relation and the relocation of vendors will commence soon
