On Tuesday at 7:40 am, 35 pilgrims from Christ the King Catholic Church in Rukungiri arrived at the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine in Namugongo, just ahead of the Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3rd.

The pilgrims began their journey on May 17th, completing the trek in just 11 days.

James Mucuguzi, their group leader, reported that all 35 pilgrims arrived in good health, remaining energetic and attributing their successful journey to the Holy Spirit and the intercession of the martyrs.

Kenneth Abidaryamu from Kahoko Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, and Bismarck Ayebare from Kabwire in the Western Division shared that they used their pilgrimage to pray for peace, unity, and love within their families and across the country. Other pilgrims expressed their prayers for healing, renewal, and deliverance, and extended their gratitude to those who prayed for them and provided financial support during their journey, despite the challenges of busy traffic.

Every year on June 3rd, Christians from all over gather at the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine to commemorate the holy martyrs who were executed on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga between 1885 and 1887.
