The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has officially launched its party activities and unveiled its flag bearers in Rukungiri District ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

While speaking at the launch, the Rukungiri District PFF Chairperson, Aloysius Mugarura, pledged that the party is prepared to win all parliamentary and council seats in the district. He said their mission is to “fight for the freedom of Rukungiri and Uganda at large” and to ensure improved service delivery.

The PFF Vice Chairperson for Western Region and Kabale Municipality MP, Hon. Nicholas Thadeous Kamara, said the party is working tirelessly to ensure the release of Dr. Kiiza Besigye, who is currently in prison. He emphasized that supporting PFF candidates—whose symbol is a mobile phone—will be key in restoring service delivery and reviving Rukungiri and Uganda come January 2026.

Several PFF flag bearers from different districts also appealed to the people of Rukungiri to stand firm on 15th January 2026, vote for change, and demand justice and freedom for Dr. Besigye. They encouraged unity, peaceful elections, and vigilance in protecting votes.

Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the Kira Municipality MP (2021–2026), told supporters that Dr. Besigye’s imprisonment reflects the fear that still grips many Ugandans. He questioned how the country would achieve freedom when its citizens fear speaking out. Ssemujju stressed that the PFF is fighting for Ugandans to benefit from the taxes they pay and urged Rukungiri veterans to vote wisely to shape Uganda’s future.

Kampala Lord Mayor and PFF Party President, Elias Lukwago, who is also one of Dr. Besigye’s lawyers, assured the community that the unveiled flag bearers form a strong and winning team ready to serve. He said the whole country is watching Rukungiri, believing it holds the key to securing Dr. Besigye’s freedom. Lukwago maintained that Besigye is imprisoned not because he committed a crime but because he has been fighting for Uganda’s liberation. He called on Ugandans to stand firm and protect their votes on election day, noting that lawyers are doing their part but need the voice of the people.

Rukungiri District has nominated 314 PFF candidates for various positions. Some of the notable flag bearers include:

Hillary Ainembabazi for LC5 Chairperson,

Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira for Woman MP, Rukungiri District,

Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti for Rukungiri Municipality MP,

Hon. Fred Turyamuhweza for Rujumbura County MP, and

Hon. Naboth Namanya for Rubabo County MP,

alongside dozens of aspirants for other district and sub-county council seats.
