The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament (WMP) NRM flag bearer, Hon. Turyahikayo Mary Paula Kebirungi, has called upon the youths of Rukungiri Municipality to remain vigilant and reject the increasing political propaganda and scams circulating ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
Hon. Mary Paula made these remarks during her rallies and community visits held at Nyamayenje Market premises, Ndorero, Kakabada B Cell, and other surrounding areas.
Addressing the crowds, she expressed deep frustration and disappointment over the conduct of the incumbent WMP, Hon. Medius Kaharaata, whom she accused of promoting divisionism within the NRM party. She noted that despite losing the party primaries, the incumbent has chosen to contest as an independent candidate and has allegedly been spreading false, degrading, and defamatory statements, including calling Mary Paula “an old woman without teeth and unable to walk.” Mary Paula dismissed these claims as completely false and aimed at misleading the public.
She further criticized the incumbent MP for failing to lobby any meaningful services for the youth throughout her full term in Parliament, noting that she has not supported them even with basic activities such as a football tournament or team uniforms. Instead, she said, the incumbent is busy misleading youths into endorsing her merely because she identifies as a youth.
Meanwhile, Mary Paula rallied both NRM and opposition youths and voters to endorse her in the forthcoming elections, stating that she is the only candidate committed to their welfare and development. She pledged to lobby for a government tertiary skilling institution in both Rukungiri Municipality and Rujumbura to create employment opportunities.
She added that she has already begun supporting youth activities by distributing 15 footballs to each primary school, promoting sports through Boona FM, and further pledged to introduce Boona TV as part of the modernization of Rukungiri District.
In response to community questions, she urged voters to support her and protect their votes to ensure she reaches Parliament. She emphasized the need for cooperation with other accountable leaders for effective service delivery and encouraged Municipality voters to endorse Gen. Henry Tumukunde as their area MP, noting that his strong connections with central government offices will help improve service access for Rukungiri residents.
At the same rally, Peace Tumuhimbiise, a resident of Kyatoko Ward, expressed disappointment with the incumbent WMP, Hon. Medius Kaharaata, accusing her of failing to support youths, bataka, women’s associations, and grandmothers throughout her term.
Citing Mary Paula’s strong performance in Rubabo County, Peace openly endorsed her ahead of the forthcoming General Elections, stating that she is the leader the people trust to deliver improved services.
