Peruth Basemera’s entrepreneurial journey is one of resilience, determination, and growth. Starting as an Airtime stockist for Airtel Uganda in 2005, she recently expanded her business into a franchise distributor chain spanning three districts.
Initially hesitant due to her minimal formal education and limited starting capital, Basemera seized the opportunity presented by Airtel Uganda’s franchise partnership offer in 2012. With the encouragement and guidance of Airtel field staff, she embarked on the journey to become a franchised distributor under BASEMERA and SONS.
Despite raising only a fraction of the required capital, Basemera’s unwavering determination and passion for the brand drove her forward. Setting up her first shop in Nakasongola with Ushs. 17 million, she quickly saw success, receiving Ushs. 2 million in commission within the first month.
Over the years, Basemera embraced changes in the market, leveraging new technologies and products such as Airtel Money to expand her business further. Recognizing the importance of a capable team, she focused on recruiting and training young individuals who contributed to the efficient running of her distribution chains.
Basemera emphasizes the importance of passion, dedication, and financial discipline for female entrepreneurs to thrive. She advocates for continuous learning and investment in business growth, not only for personal success but also for the empowerment of other women in her community.
Commenting on Basemera’s success, Airtel Uganda CSR Manager Charity R. Bukenya highlighted the importance of investing in women-led enterprises. She noted that empowered women like Basemera play a crucial role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and uplifting communities.
Basemera’s journey serves as an inspiration, illustrating how determination, resilience, and a passion for one’s business can defy odds and lead to remarkable success.
