A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 30-year-old pedestrian early Friday morning on the Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road in Rwenkurijo Cell, Buyanja Sub-county.
The victim, identified as Mugabe Regan, a casual laborer and resident of Rwenkurijo Cell, was struck by an unidentified vehicle at approximately 1:30 a.m. while crossing the road. Mugabe was reportedly returning from a nearby bar when the vehicle, traveling from Buyanja towards Rukungiri town, hit him with such force that his body was thrown off the road. His body was discovered at around 7:00 a.m. by locals.
Police were promptly notified and responded by visiting the scene to conduct an examination and document evidence. Vehicle parts believed to be from the vehicle involved in the crash were recovered, along with broken glass suspected to be from a Waragi bottle. A postmortem was conducted, and relevant witness statements were recorded.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify the vehicle and driver responsible for the fatal collision.
