Ven. Canon Elias Mbangi, the Archdeacon of Bugangari Archdeaconry in North Kigezi Diocese, has urged religious leaders to lead by example if they are to fulfill their mission of serving God effectively.

During a Thanksgiving service at Kakindo Church of Uganda in Bugangari Archdeaconry on Friday, Ven. Canon Elias Mbangi commended Medius Twebaze for her 25 years of dedicated service as a lay reader. He urged church leaders to uphold exemplary conduct, cautioning against behaviors that could weaken the faith of their congregants.

Ven. Mbangi praised Medius for her God-fearing nature, developmental mindset, and unwavering commitment to her role as a lay reader over the past 25 years.

In her remarks, Medius expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve God, noting that despite the challenges she faced, she has no regrets about her service. She encouraged young lay readers and Reverends to prioritize spiritual values over material wealth, particularly money, which she said has led many religious leaders astray.

At the same event, Peace Rugambwa, the Chairperson of the Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundiire Group in South Western Uganda, who was the Guest of Honor, urged residents of Rukungiri to actively participate in government poverty eradication programs to improve their livelihoods.

Rugambwa highlighted President Museveni’s commitment to poverty alleviation through initiatives such as the Boona Bagaigahare program. She cautioned against politicizing such programs, stressing that their benefits can only be fully realized when they are implemented without political interference.

During the function, three Boona Bagaigahare groups received 100 chickens each as part of efforts to improve household incomes.

Following the event, Peace Rugambwa, on her way to distribute more chickens in Kebisoni, encountered a security incident at Bagawe Trading Centre in Bugangari. Security personnel fired gunshots into the air, reportedly beat some individuals, and pursued the group up to Ntungamo. This disruption jeopardized the planned hen distribution in Kebisoni.
