There was controversy in Kitagat town council in Sheema District as the parliamentary committee on tourism interrogated the Commissioner of the Ministry of Tourism regarding alleged financial mismanagement at Kitagata hot springs.
Led by Mwine Mpaka, the MP for Mbarara City South, the committee learned that over 1.2 billion Ugandan shillings allocated to the hot springs project had not been effectively utilized.
Professor Elijah Mushemeza, the MP for Sheema South and a committee member, criticized the lack of value for money, highlighting that the project has been ongoing for three years without significant progress.
Francis Mwijukye, the MP for Buhweju County, disclosed that the committee has decided to summon the contractors and other stakeholders to parliament to gain a better understanding of the situation.
Mwijukye expressed concern over substandard workmanship, suggesting that the government is losing substantial funds. He questioned why the contractors had prevented district leaders from monitoring the project.
