The Archdeacon of Nyabitete Archdeaconry in North Kigezi Diocese has issued a challenge to educated Ugandans, urging them to consistently support the schools where they received their education. He emphasized that such support has the potential to significantly improve the performance of these schools.

This call to action was made during an event at Bugyera-Kitojo Primary School in Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District, where parents, students, and well-wishers had gathered to celebrate the school’s commendable performance in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

Rev. Karamuzi underscored the diminishing capacity of the government to fully provide all necessary resources for pupils to excel academically. He emphasized the importance of individuals stepping up to support educational institutions, citing the example of Annah Turamye, an alumna of Bugyera-Kitojo Primary School who provided support to the school in 2023.

The headteacher of the school, Justus Kakungye Arinaitwe, reported that out of the 40 candidates who sat for the PLE, 21 achieved Division 1, while 19 attained Division 2. He attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of parents, teachers, and students, who fostered a conducive learning environment for the candidates.

Kakungye also expressed gratitude towards Annah Turamye for her contributions, which included providing tests, textbooks, and maize flour for the students, ensuring they had adequate resources and nutrition during their studies.

Solomon Arinaitwe, the Inspector of Schools for Rukungiri District overseeing Buyanja Sub County, commended Bugyera-Kitojo Primary School for its exemplary efforts, suggesting it serves as a model for other government schools. He encouraged headteachers of government schools to emulate the practices of Bugyera-Kitojo Primary School to improve academic performance across the board.

A report released by the Rukungiri District Education Department highlighted Bugyera-Kitojo Primary School as the top-performing government school, with 21 students achieving Division 1 and 19 achieving Division 2 in the 2023 PLE. Rubanga Parents Primary School and Brain Trust Primary School were recognized as the best-performing private schools in the same examination year.
