Grace Mary Mugasa Akiiki has issued a strong warning against the illegal sale of government jobs, saying the vice is entrenching corruption and undermining public trust in state institutions.

The Minister made the remarks while officiating as Chief Guest at belated International Women’s Day celebrations held at Kakanju Primary School playground in Kakanju Sub-county. She emphasized that recruitment into the public service must strictly follow merit, competence, and academic qualifications, rather than bribery or influence.

According to Mugasa, the practice of buying and selling government positions erodes transparency, compromises service delivery, and damages the credibility of government institutions.

She further revealed that some local leaders, including LC5 chairpersons, district councilors, and Chief Administrative Officers, have been implicated in the malpractice. The Minister warned that any individual found engaging in the sale of government jobs will face arrest and prosecution.

Meanwhile, Kellen Busingye, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Bushenyi District, commended various government initiatives for improving household incomes and livelihoods.

She pointed to programs such as the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, Emyooga, and the Parish Development Model as key drivers of socio-economic transformation, noting that they have enabled communities to steadily enhance their standards of living.
