The Uganda drivers licensing system has issued  657 driving licenses and 497 learner licenses in an exercise that started on Monday 19th June 2023 in Kanungu district.

This was on Tuesday revealed by Peterson Mandera, who is heading the UDLS team, in an exclusive interview with our reporter.

Mandera revealed that the exercise was earlier sabotaged by a few individuals but after sensitization from leaders, the numbers drastically increased at the end of last week which forced them to extend the exercise up to 30th June 2023.

He also revealed that some people have not yet reached them to collect their driving licenses yet they have already been produced.

He added that they have up to Friday to collect their permits or else they are taken to their Mbarara office which will be costly for them to pick up.

Nice Turyamureeba – the chairman Kinkizi East boda boda Association lauded the team for the exercise but said it was not fully successful because not all leaders were involved in the mobilization exercise.

He also appealed to the relevant authorities to reduce the amount paid by boda boda riders, saying they cannot be paying the same amount as motor vehicle drivers.

He also asked the Uganda drivers licensing systems to open up an office in Kigezi region to ease services and bring them closer to the people.

Tukwasiibwe Moses Mahaza- the chairman Kinkizi West constituency boda boda association urged all people to use the remaining time to get permits rather than trek to Mbarara which is costly.
