Geoffrey Mucunguzi, the outgoing Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ntungamo, has addressed allegations circulating about his retirement. He claims that rumors suggesting he was dismissed due to involvement in land disputes are an attempt at blackmail by those who wanted to seize public land.
Mucunguzi, one of the 21 prominent RDCs excluded from the recent presidential reshuffle, remarked in a private interview that he views his retirement after ten years in office as a normal part of service. He intends to continue supporting his party, the NRM, and to combat corruption.
Mucunguzi claims that the news reported by the online site Spy Reports is an attempt to damage his reputation. He accuses the site’s owners of being affiliated with a group that was previously expelled from public land in Kyangara, Ntungamo Sub County.
Before his appointment as RDC for Ntungamo, Mucunguzi, a former teacher, served as Deputy RDC in Kisoro, Kasese, Kiryandongo, and Kabarole.
He has been succeeded by Isaiah Kanyamahane, who previously served as RDC in Kamwenge and Deputy RDC in Ntungamo.
