Police in Kabale are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left three others injured.
According ASP Maate Elly the Kigezi police spokesperson, the accident occurred on Saturday around 12:00 PM along Kabale-Mbarara Road in Kabale Municipality, near the Total Petrol Station. A white Mercedes Benz, registration KCN 454H/ZF5373, driven by 42-year-old Mulinge Kisinga from Kituyi district, Kenya, collided with a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration UER 007X, ridden by a man identified only as Alex from Mukaziniro.
Reports indicate that the motorcycle, carrying three juvenile passengers, was heading from Mbarara towards Kisoro when the rider attempted to overtake another vehicle. He lost control during the maneuver, colliding with a trailer vehicle traveling from Kisoro to Mbarara. The rider died on the spot, while his three passengers, two female and one male juvenile, sustained injuries and were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
Police have attributed the accident to reckless riding by the deceased motorcyclist. Both the motorcycle and the Mercedes Benz have been impounded at Kabale Police Yard for further inspection.
The scene was documented by ASP Aloket Elizabeth, Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Kabale, and investigations are ongoing. The body of the deceased has been taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
