One person died and two others were seriously injured in a fatal road accident involving two motorcycles on the evening of Monday, May 19, 2025, in Karoni Cell, Western Ward, Nyamirama Town Council, Kanungu District.
According to a police report issued by ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the accident occurred at around 9:00 PM when a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UFW 808N, heading from Kihihi to Rukungiri, veered off its lane and collided head-on with another Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UEP 852E, which was traveling downhill from Nyamirama towards Kihihi.
The rider of motorcycle UFW 808N, identified as Tweabaze Denis, a 37-year-old resident of Kateramu Cell, Kikonji Parish, Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District, died on the spot.
The second motorcycle was being ridden by Niwamanya Ivan, 25, with a passenger identified as Niwagaba Festo, 32 – both residents of Buyondo Cell, Northern Ward, Nyamirama Town Council. The two were rushed to a nearby health facility for medical attention following the crash.
Police from Nyamirama Police Station, led by PC Matanda, promptly responded to the scene. The deceased’s body was taken to Nyamirama Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem. A sketch plan of the scene was drawn, and both motorcycles were towed and parked at the police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
