Territorial police in Rukungiri District have launched investigations into the mysterious death of a 38-year-old man, Denis Muhwezi, whose body was discovered early Monday morning lying in a pool of blood.
According to police, Muhwezi had on Sunday, May 18, 2025, left his home to attend a burial ceremony in Nyabushenyi Village, Nyarushanje Sub-county, alongside family members. He was later seen at Minera Hot Springs at around 5:00 PM by his younger brother, Tumuramye John, who left him there an hour later.
Tragically, at around 6:34 AM on Monday, May 19, 2025, a resident identified as Arinaitwe Ambrose, while escorting children to school, found Muhwezi’s lifeless body along Rubanga–Minera road in Omukatojo Cell, Rubanga Parish, Buyanja Sub-county.
Ambrose immediately informed the deceased’s relatives, who subsequently reported the incident to Rukungiri Central Police Station.
The crime scene was visited, documented, and statements were recorded from key witnesses. The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem to establish the exact cause of death.
One suspect, Turyatunga Victor, is currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and assured the public that inquiries are underway to uncover the truth behind the tragic death.
