A fatal road accident in Rukungiri District on the evening of March 3, 2025, claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left a passenger injured.
According to territorial police, the accident occurred at around 8:00 PM at Katojo Cell, Buyanja Sub-county, opposite Stabex Petrol Station along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road. The collision involved a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number UBG 577P, driven by Rev. Francis Baker, the head teacher of Bwanga Secondary School and a resident of Katojo Cell, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UGE 152T, ridden by Turyasingura Innocent, a 31-year-old resident of Kaikinga Cell, Buyanja Sub-county.
Reports indicate that the Toyota Fielder was traveling from Kebisoni when the driver attempted to turn right into his home. In the process, he veered off his lane and collided with the oncoming motorcycle, which was carrying a female passenger.
Both the rider and his passenger, Nabiseri Christine, an 18-year-old self-employed resident of Mpigi, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, Turyasingura Innocent was later pronounced dead.
Traffic officers, led by the District Traffic Officer (DTO), visited the scene, conducted investigations, and towed the wreckage to the police station for inspection. The rider’s body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accident was caused by the sudden turn made by the driver. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
